This past weekend was the 42nd anniversary of the Clean Water Act, and our friends at Environment America celebrated by releasing a report called “Waterways Restored“, which highlights more than a dozen instances where our bedrock clean water law has made a difference for our waterways.
The Clean Water Act has brought triumph to the Cuyahoga River and Boston Harbor, but all of the waterways that we at Clean Water Network fight to protect deserve a success story. So yesterday, at report release events in key states across the country, Environment America also called for the restoration of Clean Water Act protections to our nation’s rivers, lakes, and streams.
As President Obama said last June, “We’ve got to dredge up that old tape of the Cuyahoga River on fire, and the Chicago River, and just remind people that this thing worked…Because as Americans, we have an obligation to be good stewards of the gifts that have been given; and make sure that they’re around for our kids and our grandkids.”
You can read a copy of the report here.
Additionally, at an event in DC today, Environment America, NWF, NRDC and other national clean water allies will be delivering half a million public comments in support of EPA’s Clean Water Rule to EPA officials. Thank you to everyone who has helped to build this groundswell of public support!
And as you know, there are still a few weeks left before the end of the comment period on November 14. If anyone would like help generating comments, please email Kimberly.
